How do you become Successful?
How do you get people to know who you are?
How do you secure an interview or get that big meeting that is the next step in achieving your target or goal?
Success requires ATTENTION. For us healthcare professionals we prefer “positive” attention. But how do you get that attention?
I suggest you strongly consider these 3 actions as a step towards success:
1. Use the WWW
Social media
(Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) are great mediums but they has to be used with caution and with the highest level of professionalism. If not done correctly social media can taint your image and cause you to be overlooked or bypassed for an opportunity to interview for job or a residency position.
Write a blog on a topic of interest. Share your learning experiences with others using a journal or a summary of treatment cases. Both of these things can be achieved on online website that are free (i.e. WordPress, Wix, etc). It only requires time and effort; no money. This is your chance to become a superstar online and portray the image you create and promote.
2. CV/Resume
As #NewDentists you already get attention because you are the “new” graduates or professionals in the dental industry. But to get the attention that pays and the attention that stays I suggest you use your CV strategically to introduce yourself to others. This a standard practice, yet there are some basics that go overlooked. First, is a cover letter that introduces your CV to the person/organization searching for you. This document should be like a biography that highlights your most credible attributes and contributions. But it also must be tailored specifically to the job or position you are seeking. Don’t forget that point. Second, bring forward the “Attention-getting ” positions, accomplishments, and/or research projects that reveals why YOU are the top candidate. YOU MUST PROMOTE YOURSELF (even if you have letters of recommendations or professional references). There is no better promotion than self-promotion. You must be able to back up your words with actions or activity so be ready to perform.
3. Personal Statement Click HERE for TIPS on your Personal Statement…
For those residency positions, the personal statement ( or statement of purpose) is like a cover letter on steroids. Tell a story; explain how you solved a problem; share how you contributed to the team. Also, mention how you are going to contribute to the team, program or institution. This is how you GRAB THE ATTENTION and GET KNOWN immediately. Show how you are different. Your #SUCCESS is build on your ability to be known as the resident, employee, or team member that gets results and solves problems.
This will make you “wanted and Needed” in the eyes of others. Now, you are on your way of being the go-to person and a main part of the success formula at that office……
Follow these steps in getting ATTENTION and watch your “star of success” shine!!
